What it involves
Custom development makes sense when standard software does not cover a process the company depends on, or when adapting the process to an off-the-shelf product would cost more or be riskier than adapting the software. We build on our own core, so changes do not stop at what someone else's licence allows. The scope, however, varies considerably. Sometimes it is one feature missing from the standard product, and the rest of the system stays as it is. At other times it is a whole application that has to fit a process nobody else has. In both cases, sign-in, permissions and integration interfaces are work that is worth having done in advance: you pay for developing what makes the company different, not what everyone has in common.
