PAUL LANGE: an online warehouse with 25,000 items
PAUL LANGE – OSTRAVA, s.r.o. · Wholesale and distribution ·
Bicycle wholesaler PAUL LANGE moved to an online-managed warehouse: from then on, warehouse staff could see on their mobile terminal where each item was stored, and had the documents for goods receipt and dispatch right there on it. We connected the eLogis WMS warehouse management system to the Helios information system the company was using.
Client
PAUL LANGE – OSTRAVA, s.r.o.
A bicycle wholesaler from Ostrava: it sells and distributes cycling equipment to shops and workshops and supplies SHIMANO parts in the Czech Republic.
Industry
Wholesale and distribution
Starting point
The company was growing, and so was the number of items in its warehouse. It recorded where goods sat on the shelves in the Helios information system, but working with it was time-consuming and did not always get the job done.
It showed most in two places: when stocking a new type of goods, which had to be set up in Helios by hand, and when searching for goods during picking.
There is nothing worse than not knowing what state your warehouse is in and what you have where.
Solution
The company approached a number of warehouse system suppliers. It ruled out solutions with offline terminals, because data would have had to be imported and exported between the terminal and the system.
Of the online solutions, it chose E LINKX. According to the client, the deciding factors were the price, a complete delivery from scanners through the network to the software, proven communication with the Helios system and the speed of implementation.
We connected the eLogis WMS warehouse management system to Helios and supplied mobile terminals with it, through which warehouse staff work with the documents for goods receipt and dispatch. The delivery also included designing and supplying the hardware to network the warehouse.
Rollout
After Helios was connected to the warehouse system, a stocktake of the warehouse was carried out, and it revealed discrepancies in item counts.
Straight after the stocktake, the mobile terminal showed where each item was stored, which the company had not known until then. From then on it used the system in full.
Results
After the rollout, the company knew where each item was at any given moment and whether it actually had it in stock. Location-based management covered an area of more than 1,000 m² with over 25,000 items, and more than ten warehouse staff worked with it.
Thanks to the online connection between the system and the mobile terminals, we know immediately where a given item is in the warehouse. We can print product barcodes straight from the terminal. Documents for goods receipt and dispatch are transferred directly to the mobile terminal, which has considerably increased our efficiency and at the same time reduced the cost of running the warehouse. We also see a benefit in the online connection to carriers and in printing shipping labels directly from the mobile terminal.
Working with E LINKX a.s. has been worthwhile and we value it highly. We already know today that it was a step in the right direction.
